Gun care question

Probably common knowledge , just not to me.
Just picked up a new to me Ruger PC9 with Black Parkerized Finish.
Looks like new , not sure if it was ever fired , if it was it does not look like it .Picked it up for $342 with 6 mags , 2 - 10 round 2 - 20 round and 2- 30 round mags . Took it out yesterday , shot several rounds , great little gun .Started back home and there was a boating accident .
Never had a firearm with a Parkerized Finish on it , always normal blued or stainless . Always cleaned both the blued and stainless the same way except a light wiping of oil on the blued finish after cleaning / before storing .
What do you do to the Parkerized Finish ?
I assume you wouldn't use oil on the finish or it would void the matt / non glare finish ?
Just thought I'd ask incase I ever get another firearm with that finish .
Thanks

Congrats on the PC9. Heck of a deal you got. You can wipe down w/oil if you want. I use Break Free. Too bad about that boating accident...

Re: Gun care question

Best $342 I ever *Sank* into a firearm.
Picked it up at an auction .
There were probably 50 to 60 people there , auctioner started telling about the registration of the firearms , if you have a ffl go here , cc permit go here and general public go here , ok how many people here have cc permit , raise your hands . over half the people there not counting dealers raised there hands
I knew probably 20 there and atleast 15 I would never have guessed had cc permit . Has me thinking of getting mine now.

Re: Gun care question

Parkerizing is a neat finish because in addition to being a nice matt finish, it has a lot of surface texture to it. Thus when you wipe oil into it it really absorbs it.

Re: Gun care question

So its not like a spot of oil on something painted flat black ,stays with a shiny wet look ?
So with the Parkerizing it absorbs the oil leaving the surface still the dry matt finish not reflective oily look ?

Re: Gun care question

Right, just wipe off the excess and you will leave a thin film that will protect, but not cause excessive shine.

Cool, never knew Ruger made something like that. Do they come in 7.62 x 25 also? Think I remember I had some of that ammo laying around, before the spider bit me and the brain fog came; but maybe that was just a dream.

Re: Gun care question

My understanding they came in 9mm and 40 cal
They were made to use the ruger P85 and up magazines in thought the police departments would use them as a duty carbine and handgun combo since the mags would fit both .But from what I've seen and heard the police departments didn't go for the p85 and up from ruger as a duty gun and they stopped production of the carbine .
So I guess yes its a varmint rifle for the varmints with 2 legs .
